Sandwich crust cutters are great way to create a fun looking sandwiches, that children will just love! With so many different styles, there is always a new style that you can make.
If you are now thinking that sandwich cutters are not really needed to make delicious sandwiches, you’ll be probably right. As you can see from my pictures, you can certainly create fun looking sanwiches for children (and adults alike…).
So, why even use sandwich cutters?
Sandwich crust cutters are great if your children or grandchildren are a bit picky and you try to get them to eat healthy sandwiches. If they are not too keen to eat wholemeal bread, by turning the sandwich into a ‘dinosaurs’ can make all the difference in them eating what you put in front of them.
One thing that always concerned me when using sandwich cutters is the left over bread. I mean, that’s not particularly frugal, is it? But if you save the bread crust and turn it into a bread pudding or just leave it to dry, you can use the bread crumbs for cooking later on. Bread crumbs are great for coating meat, fish or by adding to sauces or to thicken soups.
My favourite sandwich crust cutters
Japanese Sandwich Cutters
The traditional sandwich cutters cut through the soft bread to creat a shape, but the Japanese sandwich cutters work more like a stamp. They also seal the bread to create sort of pocket with your sandwich filling.
It’s best to use soft bread for these sandwich cutters and soft spread filling (such as spreadable cheese, fillings, egg mayonnaise etc.). If you use vegetables with these types of sandwich cutters, you might find that the filling pushes through the soft bread.
