Kroger often runs special promotions, when you can get 4x Fuel Points on hundreds of gift cards with your digital coupons at the Kroger family of stores! With Christmas just round the corner, this is a great time to grab some Gift Cards or plan ahead for the holiday season and end of the year celebrations.
One of my favorite things about the 4x Fuel Points promotion is that you are allowed to double dip to maximize your savings! When you visit your local Kroger store, select the gift cards you want to purchase, then pay for them using your favorite rewards credit card.
You’ll be able to earn whatever reward is associated with your card (ours is cash back, others get points, miles, etc). We get a higher percentage of cash back when we’re shopping at the grocery store, so it’s an extra bonus!
Here is a savings example I’ve shared previously, to give you an idea of how the double dipping works:
Step 1: Shop as usual for groceries at Kroger, earning points on your purchases. While you’re there, pick up gift cards for the stores you plan to shop at for Spring/Summer clothes, Vacation supplies, and even some for End of Year teacher gifts, birthday party gifts, and graduation gifts, etc.
Step 2: Automatically earn 4x fuel points on the gift cards.
Step 3: You’ll ALSO earn points, miles, or cash back when you use your favorite rewards credit card to complete your Kroger purchase of groceries, gas, and gift cards.
By using your favorite rewards credit card to purchase, you can earn points, miles or a percentage back on your purchase. Some credit cards even offer increased rewards for purchases made at grocery stores.
For example, the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express offers 3% cash back on groceries, and the Blue Cash Preferred® Card offers a whopping 6% cash back! Capital One QuicksilverOne®, AMEX EveryDay® and Citi® Hilton HHonors credit cards also offer increased rewards for grocery purchases. Programs with various card companies change frequently, so be sure to check what the current terms and conditions are.
Step 4: Redeem your earned fuel points to reduce the price per gallon of gas at the pump.
Now, here’s the math:
$6 in fuel rewards on a 15 gallon tank ($.40 x 15) +
$6 back if you earn 6% cash back on credit card grocery purchases =
$12 in savings on a $100 gift card!
Step 5: Use the gift cards like cash, when you shop during the spring/summer!
