The days are getting longer, and the weather is getting warmer – it’s officially summertime! For many people, this is their favorite time of year. But before you can start enjoying all that summer has to offer, there are some things you need to do to prepare. In this blog post, I wanted to share with you my favourite 9 ways to get ready for the summer months. From stocking up on sunscreen to preparing your garden, this blog has you covered!
1. Update your airconditioning
Summer is the perfect time to add an air conditioning unit to your home. You might also like to consider ducted reverse cycle air conditioning which can be used any time of the year. This modern version of air conditioning uses two coil systems to deliver cool and warm air to a home or building, so no matter what the temperature is outside you are going to be comfortable in your home.
This clever system uses an evaporator coil to absorb heat and a condenser coil to release the heat and it’s capable of both heating and cooling your home. The temperature and settings are typically managed by a wall-mounted thermostat, and many modern systems also offer smart features that allow users to manage airflow over Wi-Fi using an app.
2. Clean & prepare your outdoor grill
One of the best things about summer is being able to cook outdoors. And there’s no better way to do that than on a grill! But before you can start cooking up burgers and hot dogs, you need to make sure your grill is in tip-top shape. Start by giving it a good cleaning – this will help prevent any food from sticking or burning. Then, check your propane levels and stock up if necessary. You should also take this time to inspect your grill for any damage and make any repairs as needed.
3. Get your car summer-ready
If you’re planning on doing any road trips this summer, you need to make sure your car is up for the journey. Start by giving it a good cleaning – both inside and out. Then, check the oil level and tire pressure, and top off any fluids that are low. You should also take this time to inspect your brakes and tires for any damage or wear. And if you’re planning on doing any long drives, be sure to pack an emergency kit in case of breakdowns!
4. Update your wardrobe
One of the best things about summer is being able to ditch heavy coats and boots and embrace lighter, brighter clothing. But before you can start wearing your favorite summer dresses and THE ICONIC – denim shorts, you need to make sure your wardrobe is prepared. Start by doing a closet purge and getting rid of any clothes that you haven’t worn in the last year. Then, take inventory of what you have left and see if there are any key pieces missing. Finally, wash all of your clothes so they’re ready to be worn when the warmer weather hits.
5. Stock up on sunscreen
With summer comes longer days and more time spent outdoors. And while spending time in the sun is great for your Vitamin D levels, it’s important to remember to protect your skin. Be sure to stock up on sunscreen before the warmer weather hits, and reapply it often when you’re outside. You should also consider investing in a hat or sunglasses to help shield your face from the sun’s harmful rays. Any sunset should be accompanied by a great sundowner to soak up the last bit of sunlight of the day.
6. Prepare your garden
If you’re lucky enough to have a garden, summer is the perfect time to enjoy it. But before you can start relaxing in your outdoor oasis, you need to do some prep work. Start by giving your lawn a good mow and trimming any overgrown bushes or trees. Then, add some color by planting flowers or filling planters with colorful annuals. Finally, don’t forget to water your plants regularly – especially during hot, dry spells!
7. Exercise outdoors
With the warmer weather comes more opportunities to get outside and get active. And what better way to do that than by exercising outdoors? Not only is it a great way to get some fresh air, but you can also enjoy the beautiful weather while you get your heart rate up. So whether you go for a run, walk, or bike ride, make sure to take advantage of the warmer temperatures and get moving!
8. Clean out your gutters
If you have gutters, summer is the perfect time to give them a good cleaning. This will help prevent any water damage to your roof or foundation, and it will also keep your gutters from getting clogged with leaves and debris. Start by using a ladder to remove any large pieces of debris, then use a hose to flush out any smaller items. Finally, finish up by power washing the inside and outside of your gutters.
9. Stock up on summer essentials
There are certain items that you’ll need to have on hand during the summer months. Be sure to stock up on sunscreen, insect repellent, and pool toys. You should also consider investing in a portable fan or air conditioner for those hot days. And don’t forget the basics like food, drinks, and snacks!
Summer is just around the corner – are you ready? Use this checklist to make sure you’ve got everything covered so you can sit back and enjoy the warmer weather.
