Ideas and suggestions on How to Organize and store Legos, so they don’t overtake your home!
My boys LOVE Lego’s and the Lego Sets. Especially those that are themed around their favorite movies. They spend hours putting them together, carefully following the directions – which is awesome to see when they’re done. The problem comes soon after though. We don’t have space to keep all of the completed creations displayed, so they need to break them down, to build again another day. Then, the pieces get mixed in with other sets, or lost, the instructions get misplaced, and they have trouble building it again.
That’s frustrating, especially when some of the sets cost a good bit of money. I have tried many different solutions over the years, and what works best for us is buying plastic storage boxes, the shoe size boxes work well for most of the sets we own, though smaller and larger sizes are available, depending on the quantity you need to store. As your kids break down their masterpiece, they can put all of the pieces into the storage box and include the directions (even the cover of the box or a photo of the box showing what the project should look like) can be included before you put on the lid. Then you can easily stack the boxes in a closet or on a shelf for neat storage, and the project is easily accessible when they want to build it again!
I also saw that they now have foldable playmats for use when building projects on the floor. I WISH we’d had one of these when my kids were smaller. The kids can spread it out, pour out the lego pieces, and build away. This would help make sure no stray pieces get lost in carpets, only to be discovered by an innocent parent in the middle of the night – the pain is REAL!
