During the winter, my hands get very dry. It’s caused by a combination of a few things, beyond my control, so finding lotions to use to prevent cracking, etc. has been my mission this year. Pictured above, are the four that I’ve narrowed down as My Favorite Winter Hand Lotions, on my couch. Why four? Each of them works well, in their own ways, on different issues I’m having. I’ve tried a multitude of lotions from the drugstore, some which work well during other times of the year. The guys are having their OWN skin issues and using different products, and I’ll share more on those in a later post. After much trial and error, purchasing from multiple places, I narrowed it down to these. I’ve found that using lotion after every hand wash really helps keep the skin on my hands healthier, and I wash my hands a lot!
&
The Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin™ Body Lotion came from Birchbox. I got a sample in my monthly box and liked it. I had a sinus infection at the time and didn’t notice the smell, though the guys didn’t like it, they say it’s TOO flowery. It worked great though, so I used my accumulated points to purchase a full-size bottle. It works really well on the nodules I get on my knuckles from my Rheumatoid Arthritis. They were giving me a lot of trouble, and cracking the skin above them, which was painful. This lotion healed the skin quickly and is keeping it in great shape. I put it right on the problem areas and rub it in well once a day. I’d use it more, but the smell is a bit strong. Without the lotion, the problems re-appear. So, even though it’s pricey for lotion, a little goes a LONG way, I think my 350ml bottle will last a year or two.
It’s available at Amazon for about the same price, so if you don’t want to join Birchbox, you can get it at other places. A little of this goes a LONG way, only one drop is needed to cover both hands. *If you want to try Birchbox, you can use my referral link and save 50% on your first box ($5), and cancel at any time if you don’t like it. I don’t get one every month. I try to figure out what samples are coming, and if they’re something I’d like to try or not. I re-active or cancel my account depending on if I want the box or not. It’s only $10 a month at the normal price, and I donate the items I can’t use or don’t want to try to our local women’s shelter.
The other three products I purchased from Grove Collaborative. You can get $10 off your first purchase, if you sign up through my referral link. I joined the Grove Collaborative VIP Program because I purchase a few things from them on a regular basis. VIPs receive free shipping on every order and a free full size gift 5 times per year.
- Grove Collaborative – Hand Cream – Bergamot Orange: This was my most recent VIP Free Full Size Gift, as you can see from my order summary above. I left this review: I was hesitant to try the orange scent, and after trying it, I was correct, I don’t like the smell. However, this lotion was fantastic on my skin. There’s no residue, and I noticed an improvement in my skin very quickly. I gave it 4 stars because I am so impressed with the quality of the lotion that I’ll definitely buy and use again, but took away one star for the smell. I REALLY hope new scents are released before I need to reorder 🙂
- Yes To – Coconut Protecting Hand and Cuticle Cream: This was my second Yes To product to order. This is now my very top, favorite hand lotion. My nails and cuticles were cracking and having major issues due to Rheumatoid Arthritis issues, and again I noticed improvement very quickly. I use each of the others about once a day, and this one every other time I apply lotion. It does take a minute or two to absorb, but it leaves my skin so soft, that it’s worth the wait in my opinion, and it smells divine!
- Dr. Bronner’s – Organic Lotion: This one, I wasn’t sure about at first. It is oily and greasy feeling, but the Lavender does smell nice. This one works well on the backs of my hands, that are exposed to the wind more and seem to get chapped when I’m unable to wear gloves. I used it daily for a week and did notice an improvement. A little goes a long way, so I only need a small drop to cover both hands. I put it on my favorites list because it works well, and I’ll probably buy it again, but I wish it was a bit thicker and didn’t leave such a noticeable greasy feeling. I usually put this on right when I come in from the outdoors. I wash my hands, apply this, and then wait several minutes for it to absorb. My 8oz bottle will probably last me a year or two because I just use a drop a day.
I would love to use the Dr. Bronner’s & All-One Organic Lotion for Hands & Body, Lavender Coconut scent! My children and I are very sensitive to chemicals and Dr. Bronner’s soaps have always been great for us because the are natural.

I would like to try O’Keeffe’s Working Hands Hand Cream Value Size, 6.8 oz., Jar. I’m one of those people that are constantly washing my hands. They get so dry, and so many of the hand lotions & hand creams out there don’t rehydrate my skin.

maybe the jack black industrial strength hand healer. Ummm. Not sure what they mean by industrial strength when it applies to lotion. since my hands are dry and cracked and bleeding, however, i figure they must need some kind of industrial strength solution (short of burying them in concrete to protect them)
I would love to try the Burt’s Bees Hand Repair Gift Set!
I am impressed with Jack Black Industrial Strength Hand Healer. My husband always has dry, chapped and cracked hands. I believe this lotion will be a winner for him.
The Burt’s Bees hand repair kit would be great.
I would love to try this one, Dr. Bronner’s & All-One Organic Lotion for Hands & Body, Patchouli Lime. My skin
