New Year, New Outlook: Decluttering Tips That’ll Transform 2025

The New Year is just around the corner, and you may well be inspired to declutter the entire house so that you can start fresh. Whether you’re a homeowner who wants to take advantage of a fresh year to have a fresh outlook, or you’re looking to move to a new house and you want to get rid of the rubbish, there is nothing wrong with decluttering your entire space for the New Year.

You should be able to feel like your space is clean, unencumbered and new. It should be somewhere you can feel calm and relaxed, and you can’t do that in the clutter. So, how can you declutter your home in a way that makes you feel like you really do have a fresh start?

  • Stop shopping. The fastest way to declutter your home is to stop shopping and fill it up with more things. Creating more space means letting go of the idea that you need to shop more. So, hold off on any more purchases if you don’t need things. If you’re looking to get rid of what you’ve got, do that first!
  • Come up with new homes. What are you going to do with all of the things you get rid of? Some of it should be put into a recycling bin, some should be donated, but you could always hire a self storage unit for the rest. This way, you can come back to some of the things that you let go of once you live somewhere with more room. The last thing you want to do is pack up all of these boxes with all of your things, only for it to have nowhere to go!
  • Get started. There really isn’t a good place to begin so if you were hoping we’d tell you where to get started, we apologise! There is never a good place to get started when you’re pulling the house apart to declutter it so you may as well just pick a room and get started. Decluttering is a big enough job in itself, so don’t put any pressure on yourself by believing that there’s a definitive way to do it.
  • Take your time. You don’t have to declutter everything everywhere all at once. A whole-home declutter is really not realistic to do in one go anyway, so allow yourself the break from frustration and remember that you are allowed to take your time.
  • Don’t feel guilt for letting things go. The New Year is a time to start anew, which means it’s totally okay to let things go! Even the kids’ old arts and crafts that you’ve had for years need to go, but you can always store those in the self storage unit we mentioned earlier.

Decluttering for the New Year brings you into a fresh season. Take your time, make a plan and do this gradually so that you can get your home in the right order without feeling overwhelmed.
