If you don’t currently have a backyard or even an outdoor space to call your own, it can make you feel like you’re missing something. Apartment style living or even living in a tall block of apartments can also take away that outdoor space you would have been enjoying as your own private Oasis. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy an oasis balcony.
An oasis is just as fun as having your own backyard without all of the maintenance. In fact, if your balcony is even a small one, you can still have an outdoor space that’s just your own that allows you to relax and feel tranquil. From the addition of artificial grass into a smaller space to employing the use of evergreen plants, you can ensure that your balcony Oasis is exactly that. With this in mind, we’ve got some tips for helping you to create one that you would be very proud of.
- Decide what your goals are going to be. What do you want this balcony to achieve? Is it somewhere for you to rest your feet in your artificial grass and sit in the sun? Is it somewhere you’d like to grow flowers or herbs? Whatever the goal is for your balcony, you need to make sure that you assign zones to make sure that it happens. So you need a zone for your chair that you’re going to relax in the sun and a zone for your herb garden which you can hang over the edge of the balcony. Always measure the space before you go shopping for anything, including the chair that you want to sit outside with.
- Make sure that you get that seating just right. Sitting outside in the sunshine in your balcony is especially easy if your balcony is a sun trap for half of the day. But you still want to get the right seating because you don’t want anything to fade or break under the weight of the heat of the sun. You can find furniture that has been specifically designed for smaller spaces, such as balconies. So you do need to take the time to get this one right and shop around.
- Embrace color. If we’re talking about creating an Oasis, it cannot be blamed. You need to be able to decorate your balcony with plants, and potted plants and hanging plants are your best bet. You won’t be able to plant directly into the concrete balcony floor, but you will be able to decorate with plants that are designed to capture a lot of sunlight. Not all plants are suited to living in too much sunshine though, so make sure that you do your research and choose plants that can withstand the light.
- Soften it. Balconies often are reflective of being cold and hard spaces. You don’t think of a balcony in the same way that you think of a sweeping garden lawn. However, you can soften the space with lighting and with the right ambiance. Balcony art is a good way to soften the space, but so is using an outdoor area rug. This way you have somewhere comfortable to rest your feet.
