Boilers are an excellent way to keep your home warm in the winter. Many of the boilers in use today are the same ones that were installed decades ago when buildings were constructed.
One would assume that an appliance that runs on gas would need to be replaced or repaired regularly.
The truth is that boilers will last a very long time if they are checked often enough. All you need to know is how to keep it in good working order and what signs to look for when it’s time for a new boiler.

Look out for these clues that you may need to call maintenance.
1. You Have a High Gas Bill
Boilers come in a variety of models, each of which operates at a certain percentage of full efficiency. Knowing what model you have will help you anticipate when it will need to be replaced.
Models with a G rating are considered to be less efficient, implying that your gas efficiency is poor. In essence, G-rated models would cost you more money in the long run because they are not as effective as A-rated models. If your monthly gas bill has suddenly increased, you might have a low-rated boiler model or need a completely new unit.
2. It’s Noisy and Smells
While all boilers make some kind of noise, these are just the units doing their thing. You have a problem if you hear a new sound or if a familiar sound unexpectedly becomes much louder.
If your boiler makes a tapping sound like a knock at the door, you’ve probably got a build-up of grime and sludge on your hands. This type of issue can be resolved with a good pressurised wash, but any other strange sounds should be taken seriously.
If you need help replacing your boiler, contact experts such as those at Duffy Heating. They are a popular boiler replacement business that only stocks new boilers with more than 90% efficiency. By ensuring your boiler is working correctly, you can avoid any of these issues getting worse.
3. The Flame has Changed Colour
When a boiler is in good working order, the flame will be a bright blue colour. If the colour switches to yellow, you should seek assistance. The colour of the flame does not indicate that the gas is low or empty; rather, it indicates that something more serious is going on.
There are serious health complications if you have a defective boiler in your home or apartment building. If any part of the boiler malfunctions, you could be exposed to carbon monoxide which is extremely poisonous. A broken boiler can also cause an explosion if not all the gas is burned off. This happens when the gas gets circulated without being ignited. When there is a flame to light the gas, there may be too much in the air, causing the explosion.
Boilers are essential items in our homes, especially the colder regions of the world, but they need to be properly maintained. Keep a close eye if you spot any of these signs or notice a new sound, smell, or black mold around the house.
